About

Jay VanLandingham (he/him) believes that by being in nature and by being our natural selves, we can allow others to be themselves, thereby cultivating understanding, connection and peace.

Above all things, Jay wishes for peace and serenity in his life, as well as the lives of all beings.

Currently, Jay is in the process of self-publishing his third novel, Sentient Being. Sentient Being is the final installment of the Sentient trilogy, exploring the depths of the human spirit. The themes in this novel happen to be the elements of life that Jay finds most important; freedom, non-judgment and compassion for all beings. It is a book about how we respond to the climate crisis, our relationship with animals, and other timely issues such as immigration and LGBTQIA+ representation.

Jay discovered writing at the age of seven and quickly fell in love with the craft. Jay loves writing fiction that generates discussion and quandary rather than answers. His past works of literary fiction, as well as the Sentient dystopian series, dip into magical realism and speculative fiction. Jay has been writing books part-time since 2014. He has been vegan for over ten years and sees his work as a reflection of his desire for social justice. Jay has also had experience working with people living with HIV/AIDS, the severely mentally ill, and currently works part-time as a mental health therapist in his own private practice. Jay has traveled to Central America six times and has worked with undocumented immigrants in the past.

Jay holds a Master’s degree in Social Work as well as a Bachelor in English. He is also a certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher. In his spare time if he’s not outdoors spending time in nature, he’s enjoying time with friends, family, and his one-eyed cat Lucky.

Jay is based in Cincinnati, Ohio.
